Make it Yourself Margaritas

This post is dedicated to my mom.  I am like my father in almost all ways possible.  But in my love for margaritas, I am like my mother.  Nothing brings us together quite like a glass (or two!) of sweet, tangy, salty goodness!

Typically I just buy a margarita mix.  It is easy and always satisfies.  Last weekend for college football Saturday, my game day theme was Mexican.  I made homemade guacamole (coming soon!) and I thought some homemade margaritas would complement the chips and dip nicely.  I searched around for a good margarita recipe and settled on this one.  Jackpot!

In case you are hesitant about making your own margaritas, let me tell you that it takes approximately one minute longer than using a mix.  This recipe does contain beer.  If you are not a beer drinker, no worries.  You can't taste it.  All that comes through is the limey margarita deliciousness.  If it is too sweet for you, cut back on the soda and substitute some water.  Now gather some good friends (moms included!), some good Mexican food, and a make some great margaritas.  Cheers!

Make it Yourself Margaritas
Ingredients:
1 (12 oz) can frozen limeade, semi-thawed
12 oz tequila
12 oz diet lemon lime soda
12 oz light beer
Ice
Salt
1 lime, cut into wedges
Directions:
Pour the limeade, tequila, soda, and beer into a large pitcher.  Stir with a long-handled spoon until completely blended and the frozen limeade has completely melted.
Salt the rim of glasses.  Put ice in glasses, add margarita mix, and garnish with lime wedges.
Makes 6 margaritas.

  1. I'm disappointed I wasn't included in the dedication.
Can I make it without the beer just because I hate it that much??

  2. Alyssa,
You know I would drink margaritas (and eat a whole jar of salsa) with you any time.
I suppose you could make it without beer by substituting water. But I pinky promise you that you can't taste the beer. Just try it!!
