Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie

Dieters beware!  I try to share healthy dessert recipes here and there.  This isn't one of them!  I first came across chocolate chip cookie pie at the restaurant in my little town.  My husband and I had dinner there and our waitress asked us if we would like dessert and told us what they offered.  We don't usually order desserts at restaurants (1: I like to make my own desserts and 2: we are usually too stuffed) but our ears perked up when she mentioned Toll House pie.  She explained that it was a pie filled with chocolate chip cookie.  Yes please!

Minutes later she came out with a plate containing a slice of luscious chocolate chip cookie pie topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.  We quickly dug in and experienced one of those moments of pure food bliss.  It was melt-in-your mouth good!

I knew I had to reproduce this at home.  I am too shy to ask for a recipe at a restaurant, but I thought it couldn't be too hard to make it at home.  It's a pie crust filled with cookie dough.  I put this on the back burner for a long time.  It came back to the forefront when I came across a recipe for chocolate chip cookie pie in my grandma's old cookbook.  I had been planning to just make standard chocolate chip cookie dough, but I figured it would be a better idea to actually use a recipe.

I was a little nervous about this recipe because it's not a typical chocolate chip recipe.  But I followed directions like a good girl.  When it came out of the oven it smelled fantastic, but I still wasn't sure how it would taste.  It has a bit of a crust over it that I wasn't expecting.  I think it's from all the butter in it!  But I served it to my husband after it had cooled a little bit.  Great success!  He said it was even better than the pie we had at the restaurant (he really likes my pie crust!).  I think the fact that he ate 3 pieces the first day I made it speaks to how good it was.   And also, just look at it!

To make your own piece of chocolate chip cookie pie heaven, start by beating 2 eggs until they are frothy.
Add flours and sugars until combined.
Now for the melted butter.  I apologize to cardiologists everywhere.  However, I will say that next time I make this, I might just cut out a few tablespoons of the butter.  After the pie cooled, it was a little greasy for my taste.
Stir in chocolate chips and nuts.  I used pecans, but walnuts would be good also.
Now spread this yummy mixture into an unbaked pie crust.  If you are looking for a pie crust recipe, and some info on making your pie crust the best you've ever made, check out my post on the perfect pie crust.
Bake at 325 for one hour.  You're gonna like the chocolate chip cookie smell.  I guarantee it.
Let it cool, if you can.  I served mine with whipped cream and I drizzled it with melted Reese's.  A scoop of ice cream is great, too.  And I think a chocolate sauce would be fantastic with it as well.  Really, it doesn't matter what you put on this pie.  It is so good.  Don't say I didn't warn you!
